Report: Cruise Lines Add NEW SHIPS to Their Fleets Despite Pandemic

In a year that was marked by the suspension of cruise navigation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, companies continued to add ships to their fleets.

In March, the various cruise lines began to cancel itineraries as countries around the world put travel restrictions. In the case of the shipyards, they continued to operate, but with new security measures to ensure the delivery of ships scheduled for the year.

If all goes well, 2021 will be the year of the great repopulation of the oceans. Between ships delivered in 2020 but never used and ships to be delivered in the next twelve months, the one just started will be – vaccine permitting – the year of rebirth for the cruise sector .

There are still many unknowns and optimism must be kept in check. But the premises are undoubtedly positive.

In the opposite direction to the new additions, the industry also saw changes in its fleets. Carnival Corporation announced the sale of 18 of its cruises, while the scrapping was the final destination of Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Inspiration ships and Pullmantur Cruises’ Monarch and Sovereign.
