Lindblad Expeditions announced the launch of its second new polar vessel, National Geographic Resolution, on her inaugural voyage to Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falklands.
Antarctica was the setting for the christening of the National Geographic Resolution . The Lindblad Expeditions ship makes a maiden voyage across the White Continent and the South Georgia and Falkland Islands.
The ceremony took place in the Duse (Weddell Sea), where passengers walked onto the ice to cheer on Captain Heidi Norling as she christened the ship that can accommodate 126 tourists.
Norling, when throwing the bottle against the hull of the ship, noted that “I wish this ship calm winds, beautiful seas and great adventures. May everyone who sails with her be blessed. “
Under Antarctica’s clear blue skies and parked on fast ice in the Weddell Sea’s Duse Bay, guests walked onto the ice to cheer on Captain Heidi Norling as she christened the 126-guest National Geographic Resolution.
The occasion marked a milestone for Lindblad Expeditions , as the Resolution is the second newly built polar ship delivered to the company this year after the Nat Geo Endurance which is also in Antarctica.
Sven Lindblad, founder and co-chair of the Board, who just completed National Geographic Endurance’s inaugural Antarctic Cruise , said that seeing his two new ships together in the Port of Ushuaia had been very moving.
“There is over 1,000 years of combined team expertise that go into a moment like this, and what an amazing team it is. We are so proud of everyone that worked tirelessly to create this extraordinary ship,” said Dolf Berle, CEO, Lindblad Expeditions.
Following its cruise season in Antarctica, National Geographic Resolution is scheduled to debut in Europe this spring. The ship will sail from Portugal to France and from Scotland to Norway.
After a summer in the Arctic, the ship will return to Antarctica via Japan and the East China Sea, as well as the Pacific Islands.
