MSC and Fincantieri join forces to build a new cruise terminal in PortMiami

  • New terminal will be capable of hosting as many as three latest-generation ships at the same time, handling up to 36,000 passenger movements per day
  • New terminal will allow the Company to deploy some of its most environmentally high-performing vessels out of PortMiami
  • Project is due to be completed by December 2023

Designed by Arquitectonica, the terminal will be completed by Dec.2023 and with an investment of approximately 350 million euros.

The cruise division of the MSC group and Fincantieri today announced the signing of a contract for the construction by Fincantieri Infrastructure Florida of a new mega cruise terminal at the port of Miami, the cruise industry hub for North America and the Caribbean .

The new terminal will be financed with an investment of approximately 350 million euros, and will consist of a multi-level central body that will simultaneously serve up to three state-of-the-art ships and transit up to 36,000 travelers every day. Designed by the architectural firm Arquitectonica , it will be completed by December 2023.

The new terminal will be able to accommodate the largest and most environmentally friendly cruise ships in the MSC Cruises fleet , including the new flagship MSC Seashore , which is currently being completed at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone and will be based in Miami when it enters service, by the end of the year, as well as the company’s future LNG ships.

In addition, it will serve as a platform to support and sustain the expansion of our Cruise Division across the region and the Caribbean for years to come. It will also allow us to deploy some of our most modern and environmentally high performance ships there, representing together with our other investments in the United States our commitment to the local market, our business partners and guests ”.

Giuseppe Bono , CEO of Fincantieri , commented: “Miami is undoubtedly the center of world cruise tourism, as well as being the ideal hub for the entire Caribbean area, and is therefore the perfect showcase to host a work that will be representative of the better than made in Italy “.

In addition to state-of-the-art passenger facilities, the new terminal will include office areas, a multi-storey car park for at least 2,400 vehicles and a new road link.

The project calls for MSC to build two docks of approximately 750 meters in total, while Miami-Dade County will also build a third.

The project also includes the construction of the related coastal infrastructure, including water supply stations and four passenger boarding bridges.
