Genoa – The cruise ship Costa Diadema has interrupted its cruise in the Mediterranean and is heading from the port of Naples to that of Genoa.

Last 12 October, the offices of the Maritime Health of Genoa had asked  Costa Cruises  to carry out precautionary swabs to the entire crew of the ship after seven passengers disembarked in the Palermo port had tested positive for Covid-19 in the previous days .

“The utmost responsibility and priority for Costa Cruises are compliance with regulations, protection of the environment, health, safety and well-being of our guests, of the people and places we visit, and of our crew”, said the company in a note to a italian magazine.

Costa Cruises then explained that “in consideration of the epidemiological situation in France, we have decided to prematurely terminate the current cruise of Costa Diadema, which Costa is operating on behalf of a French tour operator, with only French passengers on board. This responsible choice was made in order to allow passengers to return safely to their country of origin and to ensure the health of our crews and the communities we visit ”.

The company concluded: “The ship is currently underway to return directly to Genoa, the port of arrival of the itinerary, where it is expected to dock on Friday 16 October. The cruises of Costa Deliziosa and Costa Smeralda, which are respectively carrying out itineraries in the eastern and western Mediterranean, are confirmed and will continue regularly ”.
